When I was in Australia a decade ago (actually, about 12 times over a 15-month period), I fell in love with Remo's - and bought many gifts in the store. I was sad to hear it disappeared, and am overjoyed to see that it's back! The web site is unique. Keep up the great work!!

Do Good & City2Surf
23 July 2008

Dear CustOMER,

Never a dull moment. Woke up this morning to a broken website. Apparently, we'd been "seriously hacked" from somewhere in China (inconvenient, but not a disaster, we don't store credit card information online). Up went the maintenance page, and in went Adam to survey the damage ... finding the hacker still in there doing bad things! I guess that this is the 21st Century version of having your front window smashed and then having to confront the vandal when you arrive. Anyway, on with the broadcast. The family and I are back from Vietnam and slowly getting back into the Sydney swing (and beers that cost more than 50ยข). Happy to be back with a firm hand on the venture tiller :) The media maelstrom surrounding the WYD Design Competition raised a bunch of issues for REMO which are currently being addressed in a new CustOMER Forum HERE. We managed to personally miss out on most of the action, but we did catch the very tail end of World Youth Day down here in Sydney ... lots of cheery Catholics clapping and singing in the streets. Whatever you believe, in terms of the underlying dogma or politics, it's always nice to see people passionate about something that at its core promotes peace and goodness. We personally feel that E.W. Cole (of Coles Book Arcade and Coles Funny Picture Book fame) got it right over 125 years ago when he simply said:

Do good and you will be happy, and make others happy.

+ Splayds
Best invention EVER | 5 Stars
There are two kinds of people in the world; those who love splayds, and those who hate them. Actually, there is a third kind, those poor unfortunate souls who have never encountered the splayd... I use them for nearly every meal. And had a difficult time searching to purchase more without having to buy a complete new cutlery set. Stock up on your splayds everyone and convert the non-splayders! (I did't know they were an Aussie invention!!! Now I love them even more!) Spread the word!

its a toy, its a seat, its a playmate ... | 4 Stars
we've only had our 2 roos for a couple of weeks but they go everywhere with my 4 y.o twins. watching tv, moving around the house, garden and lately on the trampoline. top fun

+ Cornish Blue
Cornish Ware Graduated Jug | 5 Stars
I have had one since when ever and sadly I have abused the handle. So glad to be able to replace it. Sadder still is the news that such a great tradition has come to an end. It is from this companies signature look that all over the world we associate blue and cream stripes as the signature look of dairy and specifically milk products.

+ REMO Stripey Thing
Just love it | 5 Stars
Bought my rednbone stripey last year, no shrink, so comfy and cas, have to have a blue one now! Exactly right for Gold Coast winter days.

+ Magnart Hanging System
Hung well, very well | 5 Stars
I read that they were strong magnets. I read that they were good. Fortunately I got the box of 50. They were all deployed within an hour. How did they make magnets this strong? I will get more, as soon as I can find more things that need to be hung.

+ Pure Pacifique Lolo Oil
Traditional Polynesian Beauty Product | 5 Stars
Back in the 1980's I used to import "Monoi" or coconut oil from Tahiti, and 14 ounce bottles sold for $15 back then, so this price is a bargain. This oil is the true Polynesian recipe, hand made on the islands, by islanders. Its a great nature beauty product which is useful for a variety of purposes. My favourite is to put it is to lightly heat (1 min in microwave) put on your hair, leave one hour then wash out. Makes your hair so soft and silky. Perfect for those with dry or damaged hair.

+ M&Co. Watches
A timeless love | 5 Stars
I received my 10-One-4 as a gift from my wife for our first anniversary in 1994 and I've loved her all the more ever since. The watch design is clean and elegant. And it's got everything I need: 10 o'clock - morning tea; 1 o'clock - lunch; 4 o'clock - knock off. The only thing missing is beer o'clock!

+ Leather Bookweight
Love this ..... | 5 Stars
My bookweight only arrived today and already I love it. My growing addiction to reading at the table whilst I eat my breakfast will now be soooo much easier (worked great at dinnertime too!). So glad I purchased this...now, what to get next.......

+ Northern Light Candles
glorious | 5 Stars
These candles are sooo beautiful! we eat by candlelight everyday (cos the dining light doesn't work) and these add so much to the experience. I don't think I'll fix it anytime soon.... please thank the bees!

+ Blundstone Boots
Best boots EVER! | 5 Stars
Fantastic, simply incredibly long-lasting and super comfortable boots -- I have an ancient unisex pair that I've worn *virtually daily* for the past 18-20 years. Only the outside edges of the back soles are a bit worn and I never clean 'em. (I wanna keep them looking tuff and 'legit'.) I think I waterproofed them for Sundance Festival several years ago. They do tend to eat my socks sometimes... I'm gonna get a new pair, tho, even tho it's hard to justify replacing a pair that simply refuse to wear out. Mine are so old they don't have any shock-absorbing inner sole like these newer ones do, so that'll be a nice upgrade, even tho I swear I get by fine without it. Love love LOVE my Blunnies!

WYD Design Competitions

Our World Youth Day Design Competition ended at Midnight on Sunday 20 July. Hundreds of CustOMERs used our Design'O'Matic to create designs, both reverent and irreverent. Some people stepped OVER the line ... but that's what happens when things get political. Anyway, all's well that ends well. The winner, with 86 CustOMER Votes was Makybe Pope by Craig Moore. Well done Craig. We expect to see those R$250 spent wisely on REMO merchandise ASAP. Set out below (left to right and in order) are the top 5 place getters. Browse all 449 entries HERE.

Makybe Pope My Virginity Annoying Catholics Closed Pope Mobile

We were also asked to set up a private competition for GetUp! Action for Australia using our Design'O'Matic to create designs in celebration of World Youth day. See HERE. Those entries were not judged in the normal REMO way, but rather by a panel that was comprised of Brett Solomon from GetUp!, Julian Morrow from The Chaser and comedian Corinne Grant. Their chosen winner at far left below ... along with 4 others of our choosing.

Finally, we're continuing to work with the smart people at Time Out Sydney on a range of designs addressing issues that face Sydneysiders. New designs are being added every week. From time to time check out the Time Out Sydney design department at REMO HERE.

So, as you can see, after years of planning and plotting, our Design'O'Matic is on the map, and fast becoming a useful and fun tool for CustOMERs. There are conversations to be had ... and why not also have them on the front of REMO T Shirts. Design'O'Matic is on track to become a happy CustOMER habit and a cultural forum for the community at large. And it's not just about creating the designs. More and more people and groups are going to come to realise just how useful this thing is when it comes to creating and promoting short run customised T Shirts. Read on for an example of another application.

T Shirt Ideas for The Sun Herald City2Surf

Sorry about this being a Sydney thing again, but on Sunday 10 August The Sun Herald City2Surf run is being held for the 38th time since its inception in 1971. We know that a lot of CustOMERs take part in this event. Many like to run with a message on their T Shirts. Many choose to run in TEAMS. To that end, we want to remind you that you can easily create an individual design or a team design using our Design'O'Matic. Create the T Shirt you would like to run in on 10 August! And while you're at it, why not enter it into our new City2Surf Design Competition? Finally, use our DOM Promoter to get word about your design out to the whole City2Surf running team. People look after their own ordering and bulk discounts are automatically applied. Get started on your design HERE. Once it has been created and is living in your Designs Management area, you can get started on your promoting ... HERE.

NB: If you're running for charity, we can also organise for 15% of any money collected to be donated to a charity of your choosing.

Tempus Fugit 2009: Update

One nice thing that greeted us on our return from Vietnam was a set of "ozalid" proofs and a dummy red version of this year's version of last year's Printed Thing. The embossing looks great. You're going to LOVE TF09. Thanks to Belinda's 11th hour CustOMER suggestion, the planner starts being useful in October 2008 ... so we hope to be able to start selling it to sometime during September. Still working out the pricing. This deluxe version is costing us quite a bit more than last year's Printed Thing ... but we hope to bring it in well under A$40. Stay tuned!

FREE CustOMER Since T Shirts

Don't forget that for the month of July, we're offering one of these T Shirts FREE to any orderer who orders more than A$100 worth of net merchandise. The style and size selection options for your T Shirt only become visible in your shopping cart once you've reached the magic A$100.

Limit of one freebie per CustOMER; but, of course, you can always order (and pay) for spares.

VSC Only Events: Give Yourself the Option!

We're having another warehouse shopping night for our VSCs later this week. This time around Juan Mann aka FREE HUGS Guy is going to be making a special guest appearance. He'll be on hand at the T Shirt press ... signing T Shirts and hugging anyone who comes near him. Sound like fun? If you live in Sydney and you'd like to have the opportunity of being able to attend these VSC-only events, you can make that happen by accruing enough REMO Points. The easiest way to earn fast points is to sponsor NEW CustOMERs, remembering also that each NEW CustOMER gets a FREE T Shirt courtesy of YOU ... by way of Welcome to REMO; so your invitation will be doubly appreciated.

TED Talk: Benjamin Zander

Since 1979, Benjamin Zander has been the conductor of the Boston Philharmonic. He has two infectious passions: classical music, and helping us all realise our untapped love for it -- and by extension, our untapped love for all new possibilities, new experiences, new connections. This talk was one of the highlights of TED 2008. Lots of hugging involved. It'll get your eyes shining.

View it HERE ... and then share it with others.

Finally, BIG THANKS go to Adam the Web Guy and an increasingly REMO-savvy Shaul the Money Guy for helping hold the fort while I was away in Vietnam. It was great to feel so well supported.

Cheers,

Hanoi Remo (see below) on behalf of All of Us at REMO!
