| Andre the Giant Story This is the sort of story that you will appreciate, Remo. The Andre the Giant image was created by Shepherd Fairey when he was an art student at the Rhode Island School of Design in the early 90's. (I knew him back then and used to buy t-shirts from him.) Shepherd created quite a stir when he started his viral form of art.
He was given an assignment at RISD whose parameters I don't quite recall. Something like, "create an image that will generate a strong response". So Shepherd climbed up onto a billboard in downtown Providence, RI and pasted his Andre the Giant image over a poster of the infamous Mayor Buddy Cianci. Needless to say that got a bit of press.
Shepherd went on to create a line of stickers that said "Andre the Giant Has a Posse" and had Andre's height and weight. (At some point after Andre died, I think they might also have said "R.I.P"?) Anyway, these stickers went around the world and many variations were made by others. One referred to the famous Brown University computer science hypertext and graphics pioneer Andries van Dam and had HIS image and read "Andries the Giant Has a Posse" and were distributed at SIGGRAPH conference. I once saw one on a NYC subway train that was distorted into "James Brown Eats P***Y". You get the idea.
At any rate, Shepherd's website is obeygiant.com and there's an interview with him on the AIGA site here: http://tinyurl.com/3y8q9.

| Supporting independant thought This T-shirt is kind of a reminder why we all need, at one time or another, to buy a newspaper that challenges ones thinking. Great shirt - I have the long sleeve one. Watch the looks you get wearing it on the plane (in fact - challenge yourself next time you are flying to a business meeting in Asia and wear REMO on-board!!)
