NEW ZOOB: Mobile Racer, Car Designer & Game!

This one is a winner. (Sometimes, you just KNOW.)

ZOOB is a building set with a difference. The pieces move after being put together. So kids can play with their ZOOB creations, instead of just looking at them.

ZOOB is an open-ended play system that is quick to learn and easy to use. Five different ZOOB units connect more than 20 different ways to form joints that rotate, limbs that extend and axles that spin. Based on the way things connect, move and transform in NATURE, ZOOB captures dynamic movement, unlike traditional "stacking" or "hub & spoke" construction sets. Its ball & socket units easily snap, click, slide, and pop together to form creations that go far beyond stationary models; and like crayons or clay, ZOOB allows kids (and adults) to learn, explore and create using their IMAGINATIONS. If you can imagine it, ZOOB can animate it . . . from dinosaurs to DNA strands, from animals to aliens.

Q: When and how did ZOOB start?

In 1996, an inventor named Michael Grey developed the "ball & socket" connection system that became the basis for ZOOB toys. The name ZOOB is an acronym for Zoology, Ontology (the branch of metaphysics that deals with the nature of being), Ontogeny (the development of an individual organism, usually from a simple form to a more complex form), and Botany.

ZOOB toys were introduced to the marketplace by Michael Grey's company, "Primordial" in 1997. After its launch, ZOOB won many awards and received extensive press coverage throughout the US. But a few years later, and despite rapid growth, the company found itself in financial trouble and the brand disappeared. (Know that feeling. See Our Story.)

In June 2003, a new company founded by Greg McVey and Jeff Pinsker acquired the exclusive rights to ZOOB; and their "Infinitoy" officially re-launched a full line of ZOOB products in February 2004 at the New York International Toy Fair.

REMO made contact with Jeff in July 2004 (see his nice comment below); and, as a result, here's our current ZOOB range:

My nephews got a box of 15 Zoobs about a year ago but couldn't do much with them. I bought them a big box and i am a hero. My Mum then bought some for her friend's kids. I had lego growing up, this could be better.

We bought the Zoob Game for our daughter for Christmas, and havent stopped playing! Especially fun when one of us gets the wild card and have been in fits of laughter when creation and name is revealed - this is a wonderful and creative game we will use for years to come.

From the first sample pack a few years ago to a car pack in Sept for his 7th birthday (zoobs were ALL he wanted!) this has been the hit of the decade with stepson Jack. Worth every cent. The 250 piece pack was a sensation last Christmas - and the box is great for keeping them all in one place!!!

I bought these for my nieces who are 7 and 3 yo and live in US. They were here in Sydney for a 10-days vacation and built a model each day. I instructed them initially, following the guide. After few days, they were on their own and absolutely love them. In fact, they esured that I was there to help in case they needed it. I had as much fun as the kids!

Oh yes, click through our site "a bit" he requests--is that possible? Your site is so compelling, and the connections you've made between products are so eclectic, clever, and intriguing that there's no way to only visit for a bit. Suffice it to say that we're honored to be included in the "Special Things" section, and we're pleased to meet another ZOOB fan.

Remo Giuffre has given this product a 5 star rating | Dash of Magic
First encountered Zoob at a store in the Stanford Mall, soon after we moved to the US in 1997. Felt immediately (and deep within my merchant's bones) that this toy had everything going for it: good design, strong branding & that extra dash of magic that makes some things great. Spent hours making dinosaurs and crowns with my daughter Lola in our Mountain View rumpus room, marvelling all the while at this next-generation Lego. And then the brand disappeared. Googled them every so often, but to no avail. Managed to buy some boxes via eBay before we left the US in 2001. Kept searching online from time to time from down here in Sydney. Eventually, they re-emerged, and we made contact with the new owners. (Love the new packaging.) So, Zoob sets now take pride of place here in our General Store. Oh Joy!

I need wheels! Very happy to see Zoob again, but our old (small) set came with wheels and we need some more.
