This design is a faithful replica of the under awning sign at Brown Sugar, the cafe next door to our Studio in North Bondi. (The spikes are true to life. They keep the birds off the signage.)

Brown Sugar is not the sort of place that one stumbles upon. Like REMO, it's a street back from Bondi Beach and the tourist beat. This makes it a relative safe haven for locals ... and a secret destination for outsiders in the know. In this respect, it reminds us of Restaurant florent in New York. As with florent, nobody finds themselves at Brown Sugar by accident. Everybody who's there, really wants to be there (and is usually happy to wait for a table if required).

So, what's the big deal? It's hard to point to one specific thing, so here's a random list: fresh juices, good coffee, simple tasty food, Jimmy's Blackstone Eggs, generous servings of fruit salad, great pancakes, the best pear and rhubarb muffins, an interesting and eclectic clientele ... and a very cool yet casual vibe.
